Going without a meal

I had to chuckle when a Chicago TV station ran a story about a group with a “unique” approach to relief for the Haitians. The reporter was all excited when she said that this groups was suggesting that people fast for one meal and give the value of that meal to their relief group.

Wow! Why didn’t I think of that?

Wait, don’t the Mormons already do that? For 175 years now?

Actually, the Lord thought of that. And Isaiah taught it long before the Savior was born.

Chapter 58:6-7
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry…”

It’s a great idea, regardless.
