Broken, my foot!

OK, students. See if you can find the fracture.

It is not a compound fracture but it compounds our YW camp situation. After walking on it for 24 hours, I had it looked at. That's what good pioneer genes will do for you.

The remedy is crutches and a special shoe/brace.

Love,
Mom

Dad couldn't wait to share my foot so he used his pen name: MOM...

Here's the story, morning glory:
I had a seminar in Chicago to attend on Wednesday. I drove to the Cumberland parking lot and headed toward the El train. Stepped down from a curb & apparently misjudged the height or something. My right foot turned sideways and I did hear some crunching sounds. And it did sting like the dickens.

But I decided that since I was already there I would attempt to go the class anyway. I limped to the train and then limped the 1/3 mile to the workshop, stopping at Walgreens on the way for an Ace bandage. They were nice enough at the class to get me bags of ice to put on it through the day. My goal was to get my shoe back on and go home at the end and that worked out.

So back to the train, back to the scene of the crime, and back home. Hmm, I guess my foot didn't feel that great driving home. I went to work the next morning but my friends there MADE me go to the instant-care place to have it checked out.

Well, the doctor took one look and touched it exactly where it hurt the most. The x-ray is pretty clear about the location, isn't it? He sent for a knee-high boot and the nurse had fitted it and I stood up and it felt great. Then the doctor came rushing back in and said that he just didn't feel right about using the boot and ordered a shoe and crutches instead, telling me that he just kept looking at that x-ray and felt that I need to not put any weight on it for a while or it will likely not come together properly. Fine then, fine.

The radiologist kept commenting on the fact that I could even walk with it like that because it should have been very painful. Everybody was really nice at this place and I even got to give the nurse-guy a Mormon.org passalong card and a mini-For the Strength of Youth card after our conversation. So I went back to work until 5 and came home to do camp stuff.

I'm getting really good at tearing around the house in the computer chair, at least where there's no carpet. Lots of hopping around. And a little crutches. But tomorrow I'll have to get out again (pre-camp meeting in the morning) so we'll see how that goes.

And that's the kind of response you get when people like Audrey ask "How did you do that?????"

Poor Mom!! If I were there, I'd make you soup and be your helper. Maybe you can convince Rissy she should help you because it's her life dream!
